It’s so true when photographers say that their best referrals are not from huge marketing blitzes but from word of mouth. More and more, I’m finding that to be the case in my business as well and Nicole is no exception! She approached me at Jaclyn & Eric’s wedding reception, quite pregnant and quite beautiful, and threw an idea out to me. She was expecting Diana, a girlfriend of hers and also very pregnant, to fly in from BC for a wedding in Toronto and wanted to surprise her with a maternity session. Oh the images that were flying around in my head!

When she told me which weekend it was… there was a momentary snag in the plans. Graham’s sister Charlotte was due to give birth around that weekend and there was a distinct possibility I would be heading up to the Soo for that weekend. Nicole was awesome enough to be on stand-by in case there was a delay in Char’s birth and in the end, everything worked out just fine! We never got the call for Char’s birth until later the following week (a healthy baby boy, in case you were wondering!) so it was a last minute call the day before our shoot date and Nicole, Diana and families were both totally up for it!

I had an amazing time with this session. It was Nicole, Diana, their loving husbands, a toddler each, both about the same age, and one big ol’ photo session! Incredibly enough, Nicole and Diana’s due dates are in the same month as well! It was so clear throughout the sesh that these two families meshed so well together and these two fantastic women shared a bond that was unmistakeably a friendship to last a lifetime.

Nicole, Diana: You and your families were a blast to photograph and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to shoot my first double maternity session! I sincerely wish you the best in your pregnancies and births and I’m so happy and thankful to have been a part of this amazing occasion. Much love and appreciation, Jenne.

The ever-lovely Nicole!

There’s nothing more fun than hanging out with a group of teenage girls who are just the most down-to-earth, awesome people and yesterday I got to do just that at the Girls Can Do Anything (GCDA) Magazine cover shoot! This shoot was fun, funky and a whole day of neverending laughter. The cover models were not models at all and were your every day kind of girls (could have been your niece or younger sister) with a whole lot of energy and enthusiam!

The magazine got started by Jenifer Merifield who is an amazing woman herself and mother of two beautiful teenage girls. She wanted to provide her daughters with entertaining reading material that wasn’t a whole lotta celebrity gossip and fluff. What started as a project for her daughters blossomed into an online magazine with readership spanning the globe! The monthly articles focus on teen issues from health and fitness to fashion and money and many of them are even written by teens themselves.

It was incredibly inspiring to be a part of this day and to get to photograph some really cool girls. One just finished Air Cadet camp for two weeks just before the shoot while another flew in from Edmonton when she found out she was one of the lucky 14 to be chosen for the cover shoot! I had more fun that a barrel of monkeys and got to meet some really vibrant people all day long including two other pretty awesome photographers on set! Gillian and Veronica were super-fun and I know we could’ve talked shop all day long if it weren’t for the shoot! I can definitely say that I love what I do because I get to experience opportunities like this and I’ve always been a die-hard believer that girls really can do anything!

Be sure to check this magazine out… it’s pretty awesome! Oh, and be sure to check back for an amazing double maternity session soon to be posted!
